For a Daughter I Wish I’d Had!!!
[ © Usha Pisharody of A Quest…! dated 19 June, ’07 ]
Audacious smiles
laughter ringing clear-
warm hugs and
little sudden pecks on my cheeks!
A whirlwind of a girl;
now here, gone in a flash!
endearing entreaties-
unquestioning love!
Long long hours of girlish talk-
boys, books, heroes and men!
Life, love, trust and THAT!
Confiding giggles-
while ogling the boys…;)
summing them up, then
walking by in disdain!!
Cheering her up
when sadness strikes-
being there for her…
just in case, she asks!
Holding her hand-
without her knowing..
as only moms can do;
though she, being mine,
would know it too…!!!
Sharing myself with her-
my fears, my joys
my secrets, and my ploys-
Ending the day in warmth
so wonderful
so fierce and filling..
Wishing each mother had
a daughter..
so like mine!!

This is a fabulous poem that beautifully depicts the connection between a mother and daughter. Only a beautiful soul can pen down such lines.
I am a daughter and I can’t wait for my daughter to grow up.
🙂 A zillion thanks, Sol… for digging this one out, and putting it up here… I dont need to tell you, this is perhaps the most fav. of my writes… 🙂
God Bless you and Peanut 🙂
Beautiful poem. Reminds me of my childhood, all those precious cozy times that my sister and I spent with our mother. And now sharing those with my daughters.
🙂 Lucky you too, Lakshmi 🙂 Thanks!
Beautifully written! I always wanted to have a daughter..and God has blessed me with one darling of a daughter who dotes on me .. and professes her love all the time .. before all the people… so much so that they say ‘I love my mamma..’ when they sense that she is about to say it. I’m hoping and praying that she’ll be like this forever.. and that we’ll be the best of friends..
🙂 May it always be so… the two of you friends forever 🙂 Thanks Priya!
Came late to this post but enjoyed the poem and the thoughts. I have two daughters and they are the most wonderful friends any woman can ever have.
🙂 Thanks Nita… Lucky you too!
This is beautiful!
Thank you!
This is beautiful! I wish I had a daughter…in Tamil there is a word for mothers who don’t have daughters – ‘pen maladi’. I often dream of having a daughter and see her in all my nieces and grand nieces and they know it!
Usha has expressed her love, so nicely.
🙂 Thanks Sandhya!
How do I put it..?
Blog strolling I found “A Quest” and that wonderful thing made way to this.
It “aroused” me.
And I love this verse…
Not only that I’m a proud daughter who shares a great relationship with Dad, who’s more of a buddy.
I love it. And excited to be a part of it.
🙂
Tullika, thank you for the visit to the Quest too 🙂 And for your lovely words, here, and on that space too!
nice poem
Thank you sm!
First of all, I am truly sorry for the delay in getting here 🙂
Second: this has to be the most precious write, personally, for me, for the reason it wrote itself 🙂 It is for a daughter… a manasaputhri, as they say… Sashu 🙂. It also encompasses the affection I have for another author here, Indygurl, another daughter of my heart 🙂
And for all of you who have daughters, and have been the daughters your moms loved so 🙂 🙂
Happy New year, and God Bless!
